EXPO CO2 - Barcelona, 7th and 8th April, 2008: The essential appointment in the climate economy.
Barcelona (Spain) welcomes for the third time the congress of reference in Europe concerning the creation of knowledge in what respects CO2, Expo CO2 www.expoco2.org), The economics and global policies of the climate, co-organized by the Fundació Fórum Ambiental and the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona.
The meeting will take place on the 7th and 8th of April in the Casa Llotja de Mar of Barcelona (Spain), former stock exchange of the Catalonian capital founded in 1330. A meeting which will be fundamental to discuss the horizons of the future beyond 2012 and to expose the configuration of a global carbon economics and the development of the whole potential the climate economics has, with long term prospects. With this purpose, it receives the most outstanding experts on the subject.

Main subjects of Expo CO2 2008
- What will happen after 2012? The Bali roadmap invites us again to an intense agenda of negotiations which need to be concluded before 2009 to avoid not having an empty space between the first period and post Kyoto.
- The European Council with the “20 20 by 2020″: the European Commission will launch in the spring Summit the new objectives referring the energetic and climate package.
- The global economy of climate: the exemplar development of the emission market exceeds the European environment and involves interesting business opportunities.
- The local and global adaptation policies: which must be the regional strategies in the adaptation to the climate: to move from the evaluation of the vulnerabilities to strengthen the resistances of the climate change.
- Carbon Budget: how to make the most of the potential of the market instruments to improve its efficiency and develop adequate policies to the climate change.
- Investments in carbon: financing, investments and risks in the investments in the carbon projects is one of the main subjects of the new climate economics.
- Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): The capacity of the CCS allows an exploitation of coal resources with less CO2 emissions and international agreements with developing countries. The future cleaner energetic scenarios depend on their success.
- Air transport: the revision of the directive of CO2 emissions includes air transport, a key area for the tourist sector.
- What can new technologies contribute in the future solutions: innovation and investigation are fundamental to achieve in the future a much more sustainable society.
These are some of the subjects which will be dealt during the lectures and debates of this third Edition of Expo CO2 2008 trying to find answers to them. The congress will once more go ahead of the new economic areas which will foster the development of the climate economics. Kyoto plus, EU-ETS plus 2012 place more ambitious objectives in which Europe wants to be converted in the hard core of the global carbon economics, with an exponent growth when converted in to a planetary economy.
Expo CO2 2008 continues the task begun in the past edition: Public and Private Strategies 2008-2012, where thoroughly was discussed how the different National Allocation Plans are fulfilled on behalf of the different EU countries during that period.
