As people of faith, we are called to be good stewards of God’s creation and to protect vulnerable communities from the harmful effects of global warming and fossil fuel-based energy production.

In the next few days, the House of Representatives will vote on the energy bill and an amendment calling for a renewable energy standard. This renewable energy standard (RES) would increase the percent of electricity that is produced from renewable energy to 20% by 2020 and is an important step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. Having a strong RES would increase jobs, save consumers money on their utility bills, and help protect God’s creation from harmful energy sources.

This amendment needs your support. Please be a guiding light for good energy stewardship by lifting up your voice for a renewable energy standard today!

Call your Representative’s office today and let them know you support this amendment.
Ask them to help protect the integrity of God’s creation and support a significant increase in the use of renewable energy sources.

2. Ask the operator to connect you to your Representative (visit www.house.gov to determine your Representative).

3. Ask to speak with your Representative. If they aren’t available leave the following message with the receptionist.

“My name is ______ and I am calling from (city, State). I would like to urge Representative _______ to support legislation that will increase renewable energy standards to 20 percent by 2020 in order to help curb global warming and air pollution. As a person of faith, I believe that God calls us to protect the integrity of creation, especially when global warming and air pollution will affect those living in poverty the most. Increasing the use of renewable energy will also create jobs and save consumers money on their utility bills. Thank you for your time.”
