We were looking for further indications on how the press has received
the Presidential pronouncement when in my hand fell
THE WEEK Magazine dated February 17, 2006. THE WEEK’s cover says that
it is THE BEST OF THE U.S. AND INTERNATIONAL MEDIA and that it provides
us with ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT MATTERS. I present
here this claim because, to my surprise, I have actually found that it
is true at least in what concerns the subject at hand.
THE WEEK has a short and critical article on the President’s
statement
which it then faces with the Administration’s actual deeds,
and it finds that the deeds do not match the professed intentions.
Further, in THE WEEK’s pick of cartoons i found several that in
combination show us the reality of the background site behind the
President’s speech.
The totality of the article and the medley of cartoons seem to me to
depict our very sad reality, and my feeling is that help is not yet on
the way. Nevertheless, we are optimists, and we believe that help will
arrive eventually. The Jinni called addiction was indeed set free by
the President, and the latest misfortunes of the Vice President will
add up to the public call for real action.
