New York City, February 6, 2006.
When it comes to business, the Australian Government likes to play all cards. We just ended reviewing the AP6 farce where Australia and the US were trying to move China, India, Japan, and south Korea to create a no-alternative to Kyoto. We then predicted that a Conservative led Canada could be the 7-th member of this group, that has coal and nuclear at heart, and is still quite wed to the ideas of continuing growth and energy enhanced consumerism.
New Zealand Government did not want any part of the above, and you can find on our web the previous New Zealand led efforts to create a New Zealand-Australian much more positive alliance; actually one that wants to make money, but will do this by helping fight the effects of a run-away business approach of the AP6 line. The New Zealanders had to stay away until there is now a free time to try also their line of thought.
THE SECOND AU-NZ CC & BUSINESS Conference will be held in Adelaide, South Australia, 20-21 February, 2006. It will deal directly with business opportunities and risks in the Asia-Pacific region arising from Climate Change.
The meeting will include key Australian federal and state politicians, the NZ Climate Change Minister and senior executives of several major corporations. it will basically try to undo some of the damage that may have resulted from the AP6 approach of see no evil.
Speakers confirmed include the head of Australia greenhouse office, Mr. Howard Bamsey, who will present Australia’s initiatives that include the AP6 pact; Henry Derwent, UK Director of Climate Change, Energy, and Environmental Risk; the Hon. David Chomniak, Manitoba, Canada, Minister for Energy, Science & Technology; and Ms Paula DiPerna, Executive Vice President of the Chicago Climate Exchange. One can thus expect now that some of these business representatives will actually explain to their peers that doing the right thing regarding decrease of carbon presence in the atmosphere, is indeed a money making proposition.
