Today we learned that the Clintons went to Amman to stay by the
Jordanians
in their look at the horrors that Sunni fundamentalism infringed upon
them.
Mr. Annan bypassed his scheduled stop in Amman and is now in the “Green
Zone” in Baghdad - the last place on earth one can learn something
about
Iraq. The New York Times did not print the following letter questioning
Mr.
Annan’s Judgement. Now we question one more time New York Times’
editors
judgement. Only the Clintons had it right. Intelligence - where next
though?

Dear Editor,
The New York Times.

I feel that this is something that must be said and your paper must
print!

Why did the UN Secretary General cancel his trip to Amman? This was
ridiculous.
Does he not understand that his place was to show up on his previously
scheduled trip in order to say that the civilized world does stand by
Jordan
and does not accept the suicidal tendencies of what he should have said
were
fringe lunatics?

He intended to go to Iran where he would have made a negative statement
on
above subject, and had to be talked out of it. Has he stopped talking
now to
Mark Malloch Brown his wise adviser?

A sane UN is needed now more then ever, like every other institution it
will
sink if the leadership insists on catering to itself. Pragmatism means
adaptation to the moment’s realities, but it must be done with a clear
goal
in mind.
The UN must be about the future by doing the right thing for the
moment.
