Germany has already achieved the replacement of the use of conventional
energy sources for electricity, with 8.5% based on windpower
(Winpower?). They use
biodiesel and have a policy for closing nuclear plants. All of this,
and much
more, were inputs the Greens had over the Red-Green outgoing coalition.
Angela Merkel’s Conservative blacks campaigned on a platform that
called for
negating above policies. Nevertheless, reality leads to a black-red
coalition to be
headed by Angela Merkel.

It seems that out of the 14 ministerial posts, the blacks will be
getting six
ministries:
interior, economic, defense, agriculture, education and family. They
are
leaving for the reds the remaining eight ministries, six of their own
and the two
that were headed previously by the Green ministers — foreign affairs
and
energy. Among the other six red ministries will be labor, finance and
justice.

The reds have insisted on the green portfolios, that under Schroeder
were
headed by Fischer and Tritin, because they insisted to keep the
policies in those
areas without change while recognizing that the electorate wants indeed
to
see some changes in the interior and economy areas.

The fact that energy will stay with the socialists may indeed help
continue
policies started by the greens regarding conservation and renewable
energy. At
least we like to hope so, and we will get an indication of the German
future
policy by seeing in the coming weeks if there will be changes in the
staffing
of the ministry.
