United Nations basement, New York City, March 3, 2005

The UN called for a Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. It was launched at the UN headquarters on March 1, 2005 and will extend to 2014. The lead agency is UNESCO and it will have yearly meetings, conferences and reports of progress. The idea here, as presented by the government of Japan, is that children’s imagination are still unhindered by the boxes that hinder our imagination. Allowed to think out solutions, the young people will establish better systems when their generation takes over.

Above was kept secret from the UN press by the UN Department of Public information (UN DPI) by not arranging for an appropriate press conference.
